An Introspection Tool for the Java™ Platform

We are making available a research prototype that provides a user interface to the reflection API of the Java programming language. The tool provides the following features (as illustrated below):

• Browse classes (from your CLASSPATH, or over the network)
• Create new instances of classes
• Inspect and modify the value of fields
• Invoke methods on objects
• Integration with the BeanShell console

We are making this tool available for free download, for experimental purposes only.

The tool is available in binary and source form and is not currently supported. The following files are available from the download web page:

• The binary download contains compiled class files that should run on JDK1.3 or later. After un-zipping this file, please read the contained README.txt file that describes how to start the tool. Also includes startup scripts for Unix, Mac and Windows.
• The source download contains all the files necessary to compile the Tool using javac.
• The manual describes how to use the Introspection Tool, providing the reader with a working example.

Integration with the BeanShell console requires a separate file from the BeanShell web site.
